Understanding Menu Functions on the G12

Canon introduced the PowerShot G12 camera this year. The camera carries over many of the G11's well-liked features, such as image stabilization to compensate for trembling hands, and a 5x optical zoom which adjusts the focal length from the 28 mm wide-angle to a 140 mm telephoto. You will need to use the menu to access or set many from the features.

Menu Basics

Access the menu by pressing the "Menu" button about the bottom of the camera. Use the G12 "Zoom, " "Left" or "Right" arrow buttons to maneuver to a tab on the menu. Then use the camera's "Up" or "Down" arrow buttons to recognize a specific item under the tab. In some instances, you have to press the "Func Set" button to make a sub-menu for changing a particular setting. After locating them you want, use the "Left" or "Right" arrow buttons to change a setting, then press "Menu" to set it and restore the standard screen.

Multiple Menus

The G12 doesn't have one menus. Instead, it has several menus that appear in various circumstances. The Set-up Menu allows you to set sounds related to each camera operation, mute the sounds and control the amount, as well as setting the date and time and also the screen brightness. Playback allows you to replay past pictures, erase or protect them, shuffle or rotate images and also to resize or adjust the colors. When connected to the printer, the Print Menu displays a printing screen, chooses images to print and sets the printing style.

Designing

Press the icon marked with a screw and a hammer to customize popular functions. For example, you can replace the start-up screen image with one of your photos. You can also register functions you frequently use and move these phones the camera's front dial or the control dial. To do this, navigate to the "Star" tab and press "Func Set" to produce a customized "My Menu" on a single screen containing as much as five menu items you frequently use.

Defaults

If you create a mistake in setting your camera, restore the PowerShot G12's default settings when you go to the icon represented by the screw and hammer. Scroll down the listing of items to "Reset All" and press "Func Set" to revive the default settings. This will not reset the day, time, start-up image or changes to the G12's film mode. If you've saved data for white balance, capturing direction, exposure compensation or calibration for the camera's digital level, they do not reset unless you change individuals specific items.
