Experienced Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who revolutionised everyday technology from pc to the iPod and iPhone, died on Wednesday at age 56 after a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
The death from the charismatic computer genius was announced by Apple, a company having a market capitalisation of over $350 billion.
Apple had merely a day earlier unveiled its latest iPhone, the gadget which transformed mobile communications.
In a brief statement, Apple's Panel of Directors said: "we are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs died today.
"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Dorrie. "
Jobs, who started Apple with high school friend Stephen Wozniak in 1976 inside a suburban California garage, leaves behind wife Laurene and their own three children.
He also has a daughter from the relationship before his marriage in 1991.
In a stunning relocate August that had taken the technology world by shock, Jobs had resigned as CEO of the technology huge and named Tim Cook as his successor.
The iconic technocrat was identified as having a rare form of pancreatic cancer in 2004 and underwent a liver transplant last year.
