India is considering building large nuclear power plants, and technical cooperation with some foreign suppliers, October Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
Minister of State for personnel, public grievances and pensions V. Narayanasamy said in a written statement be made "primarily to facilitate the rapidly growing nuclear program."
These would be large light water reactors, said the minister.
Narayanasamy also said that the Indian nuclear reactor technology was on par with international standards.
He was responding to Ramsinh Rathwa, who wanted to know if the technology of Indian reactors would take some time to reach international standards.
The minister said that the Indian nuclear industry was well matured now and has not had to struggle to cope with embargoes to meet the needs of its nuclear program.
"Almost every aspect of nuclear technology and related technology for nuclear power plants and nuclear fuel cycle indigenized.
"Current research and development efforts towards the development of advanced reactor systems."
