SIAM for retaining excise on small cars at current levels

Ahead of the Budget, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers at the moment asked the government  to keep excise duty on small cars by the side of the current level of 10 apiece cent even though the industry witnessed high-quality growth this fiscal.

"The automobile industry contributed 86 apiece cent more excise (to the government) than carry on time, accounting 26 apiece cent of the overall excise kitty and near is rebuff need to roll back to the levels of the pre-stimulus package days," Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers President Pawan Goenka told reporters in a capture on tape seminar from Mumbai.

While part of the stimulus package provided by the government to overcome the 2008-09 downward spiral, small cars had enjoyed a reduction in excise duty to 8 apiece cent from 12 apiece cent earlier. It was soon increased to 10 apiece cent in carry on year's Budget.

Big cars, sports-utility vehicles and multi- function vehicles at present magnetize 22 apiece cent excise duty.

"Any alteration in excise, whether an increase in intensity or decrease will be conceded on to the consumers. Let it continue by the side of 10 apiece cent and not increase in intensity to 12 apiece cent with the aim of was prevailing by the side of the pre-stimulus package days," Goenka thought.
