The national airline Air India had the highest number of flight cancellations this year, the government said today.
Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi, while responding to a written reply in the Lok Sabha, however, attributed the cancellations to the pilots' strike April 27 to May 6.
He said that the cancellation of the principal, 2753, passed by "Air India 740 and 1,848 cancellations in April and May 2011 mainly due to the pilots' strike of 27 April to 6 May 2011."
The other airlines had canceled its regular flights were Kingfisher Airlines (682), Jet Airways (540), JetLite (381), Spicejet (351), Indigo (89) and Go Air (84).
"Companies tend to operate regular flights in the hours approved. However, sometimes the flights are canceled due to restrictions of clock hours, the time for technical reasons beyond the control of airlines," said Ravi.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has published the requirements of Civil Aviation (RAC), (an application form), which provides for compensation and facilities for passengers in the event of denied boarding, cancellations and delays.
"The car is available on the DGCA website www.Dgca.Nic.In. All airlines are offering compensation and facilities for passengers affected under the provisions of the Central African Republic" he said.
Air transport is a contractual matter between the passenger and the carrier. The complaints are with the airlines for the passenger. However, some passengers choose to take issue with the DGAC, which are taken up with airlines to repair, he said.
